Question by Justin: Will the Tax Payers Advocate help me with my IRS tax debt for free?
I have $ 16,000 in tax debt and a friend of mine told me that the Tax Payers Advocate is a free service that would help me take care of it. Is that true?

The Tax Payers Advocate is a department within the IRS, so usually they only really serve the purpose of helping taxpayer’s set-up a payment plan with the IRS. Trying to get your debt or penalties reduced is very unlikely. Since you owe the IRS more than $ 10,000 you don’t qualify for help from the TPA. They only help those with less than $ 10,000 in tax debt.
